CURIOSITIES
This is the third film in the so-called "Red Curtain Trilogy" by Baz Luhrmann. The first was "Love is in the Air" (1992) and the second "Romeo + Juliet" (1996). Despite being considered a trilogy of three films have no connection in his narrative, just the use of a specific film technique and the use of the characteristic red curtain in a theater. Baz Luhrmann was inspired when making the movie when his wife traveled to India to work on "The Dream of a Summer Night." One night out and saw the poster of a Bollywood production decided to go see the movie. The audience was composed of two thousand members, and the couple noted that the narrative contains comedy, tragedy, musical numbers, and this was concentrated in four hours dubbed Hindi film style. The pair found that the mixture was formidable, and asked her could create a similar cinematic style, and thus a musical could work again in American culture mixing tragedy and comedy. His current project at the time was performing "Romeo + Juliet, 'but decided that the next would be a musical. Within the film there was a play called "Spectacular Spectacular, "which was partly based on a Sanskrit drama titled" Mṛcchakatika. " In addition to the Hindu influence, Luhrmann brought ideas of the Greek tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice. Orpheus was a musical genius unmatched in the world, the filmmakers decided to replicate this fact using songs from the mid-twentieth century, created decades after the year 1899, which focuses the narrative. Thus the Christian character stand out as a co mpositor brilliant. Production began in November 1999 and was completed in May 2000 with a budget of fifty-two million dollars and a half. There were no outstanding problems in production except when Nicole Kidman injured her ribs in a complicated dance sequence. The production also had scheduling conflicts because McGregor was also required for the filming of "Attack of the Clones." Because of this, part of the filming in Sydney took place in Madrid. When selecting songs, Baz Luhrmann merge what the Moulin Rouge posed to the public in 1899, and express this in a contemporary way. We selected popular music mostly extrapolated from the so-called "MTV Generation." It took two years to achieve Luhrman to secure rights of all songs you used, but this proved to be one of the greatest successes of the film that managed to engage the public. The soundtrack swept the sales charts, releasing two albums. Originally thought to release the film Christmas 2000 with the intention to be a candidate for several Oscars, but ultimately delayed the premiere for Baz Luhrmann had more time for post production. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2001 on May 9. After a short distribution on the eighteenth of the month, its premiere took place on June 1st. Since its limited release, the film was a box office success grossing more than two hundred and fifty thousand U.S. dollars in only two cinemas in one week. This success spread nationwide raising fifty-seven million dollars in the United States. Once triumphed at the international level achieving a total revenue of almost one hundred and eighty million dollars. The film received eight Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Actress (Nicole Kidman), Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Makeup, Best Sound, Best Art Direction and Best Costume. However, only took home two Oscars for s mentioned last two nominations. "Come What May" was the only original song in the film, but was disqualified for nominations because it was originally written for Luhrmann's previous film, "Romeo + Juliet."
PERSONAL NOTE
The film impressed me a powerful way for its romantic plot and its fabulous incorporation of modern music. I've never been surprised by the resounding success that was favored, which must also attribute the excellent performances of Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman. I loved the message of love as a force that can overcome all obstacles that life throws at you and the need for such an emotion for human survival. From this point of view I loved the character of Christian, from his point of view, more innocent, and extremely optimistic, get beat the obstacles that the character of Satine has built around him. Ewan McGregor makes an Authoritative interpretation of etation more seductive and convincing, and from my point of view deserved an Oscar nomination. Satine's character is not far behind. We have a clear example of a woman whose life has been difficult to build and erect walls around it, which only deprive them of the opportunity to love and carry out their dreams. The character convinces the show and is giving gradually to the charms of Christian, and this predisposes to attain happiness, when really it's his last chance. To say the killer soundtrack, which has not proven successful in sales on. The use of modern songs was quite an innovative idea that worked perfectly convincing at all times. Each song fits perfectly with their respective scenes, providing romantic moments, dramatic and humorous at different times. Personally I can only doubt the ability romantic who has not been moved by this excellent film . Without a doubt, I would like to have the optimism of Christian character, that conveys the need for us humans to love.

SCENE
Without a doubt my favorite song from the film, mixing Christian declaration of Satine in Moulin Rouge Elephant.
